Mind the Gap

First of all, sorry I've been missing the last couple of days. I've been kinda out of it and therefore didn't feel like I would be able to contribute anything meaningful (if that's what it is that I do) to this blog. Anyways, Sorry, I'm baaaaccckkk!!!

I walked into Gap the other day, mainly to get warm because it's around negative 5 here, and experienced a breathe of fresh air upon entering. I'm sure their video cameras picked up on the look of surprise on my face. They have clearly put their spring/summer collections out for shoppers and seem to have a nautical theme going. I wanted to buy everything and move to Nantucket. It was surprisingly refreshing, not only for this time of year, but also for Gap. Anyways, here are some of the items that caught my eye.

woven bow cami - $24.50; heart-shaped bow tank - $44.50

pintuck polo - $24.50; ruffled colorblock top - $44.50

striped tie-front top - $44.50

belted 3/4 sleeve dress - $49.50; striped ruffle-front dress - $59.50
twill henley dress - $49.99 (sale)

back-tab mac jacket - $69.50

three-button shrunken blazer - $69.50; cropped hoodie cardigan - $49.50

tortoise thong sandals - $24.50; grommet bucket hat - $16.50

Finally!!

The Screen Actor's Guild awards were on last night and can I say, "Finally! It's about time!" I have been going through withdrawal of not having any awards shows lately and it was such a relief to finally get to enjoy one. Below are my favorite dresses of the night. I think each dress perfectly shows off the person and body beneath it. Well done ladies!

Gotta give some space to the newbies at the awards shows this year... Ellen Page (June) and Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray)

I also want to point out Daniel Day-Lewis' speech last night. It was very endearing. He dedicated his award to Heath Ledger and was very poignant in his explanation why. I just thought it was a very simple, but noteworthy thing to point out. I think People.com has the video of it. Check it out.

My Life in Color

I found out about Kyra Kendall from fellow blogger, Haute Mimi, who had Kyra create a specific look for her blog. Kyra works with international print campaigns, magazine editorials and online branding for corporations.
I contacted Kyra to get some ideas on pricing and found that for such great artwork she is more than reasonable. If you visit her website you can search what she has already created or look on her Stock page for items that she's selling right now for a great bargain.
Questions? You can email her at hellokyra@mac.com Here is some of her work:

Tragedy

As I'm sure many of you already know, Heath Ledger passed away suddenly and tragically yesterday, Tuesday, January 22, 2008. While it is still unknown as to the exact cause of his death, the mourning has begun. It seems that regardless of the reason of his death, his appearance in many movies including, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Patriot, Brokeback Mountain Casanova, and soon to be released the new Batman Movie in which he plays the new Joker will deeply overshadow what brought his life to an abrupt end.

I think that the reason many people don't understand why the grief is so shocking for our generation is because there aren't many young male actors with the apparent depth he had to play each of his characters. We just don't have many. I think we were looking to him to have a lifetime of breakout performances.

Not only was his acting noteworthy, but so was his lifestyle. He seemed to be living the normal life in Brooklyn, NY. He just got out of a relationship with Michelle Williams, actress from Brokeback Mountain as well, and they have a 2-year old daughter, Matilda, together. He was often pictured with both of them on the streets of New York.

So, I think all of that combined is causing a lot of people, especially our generation, to feel like the wind was knocked out of them. He could have been one of the greats and from the movies he's been doing lately, was already sending his career in that direction. Such a loss to the acting community.

It's my hope that his family and friends are able to use this time to privately come to terms (if that's even possible) with what has happened and realize what an asset his life was to many people. I hope they are given the privacy that they so deserve despite his already very public death. Below are some pictures from his life:

Dress Your Age

20s- now is the time to wear light colors and accent with safari pieces according to Harper's Bazaar. I couldn't agree with this more. Light colors are perfect for girls under 30 and can pull it off well. I think the safari image can give off an air of "been there, done that", too. You can look sophisticated and sweet. Kate Bosworth pulls off this great look above.

Posh in a Bag

Marc Jacobs Spring 2008 collection has risen to new levels with a new ad campaign featuring Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice. Ever wonder how small she really is? Now you know.

I think this is a brilliant ad, though. It features a celebrity while bringing to light to designer through small glimpses of Marc Jacobs collection strategically placed on her. My favorite is the one below on the left. Everyone's talking about it- which is exactly the point of advertising. Someone deserves a raise.

Supersize Me ... Or Not ... Whatever Works

Fendi's spring 2008 collection was shown last September ('07) and made quite the splash with new additions to his Baguettes (meant to resemble a French loaf of bread that one would stick under their arm and walk down the street with). Previously made in a one size fits all medium - the models were suddenly seen struting with extra large and extra small Baguettes with detachable straps which suddenly turn the Baguettes into clutches. This new invention completely goes against my mantra, "If it isn't broken- don't fix it," but I think this was a smart move on the designer's part. Well done!

You don't know me.

"Don’t presume you know me. I am not what you think I am. I am something darker, stronger, stranger. "

Quote from fellow blogger- kinda sums up my day.

This dress worn by Kyra Sedgwick, cousin to Edie Sedgwick, makes me smile. I'm loving it.

Always a Bridesmaid...

27 Dresses comes out this weekend and I plan on attending.
Synopsis: Heigl plays a woman who has been in 27 weddings and has yet to find the guy for her. When her sister starts dating her boss, a man she is secretly in love with, Heigl reevaluates her approach to relationships so that she can one day be a bride instead of another bridesmaid.
Outlook: hopeful, Heigl does funny films and has a dry wit about her that adds depth to her characters.
Cast: Katherine Heigl, James Marsden, Ed Burns, Judy Greer
